We perform a physical exam before each anaesthetic and surgical procedure and monitor your pet during the anaesthetic procedure.
Pre-operative blood work to assess liver and kidney function and a CBC to alert us to anemia, infection and hydration status can be run on your pet. This is often done the day your pet is in for the required surgical procedure. Results are obtained in our in-clinic lab by our trained technicians and viewed and analyzed by our veterinarians. On occasion the treatment plan may be altered if the blood work alerts us to any immediate concerns.
Pre-operative ECG’s can also be used as a screening tool. Routine ECG’s are examined by our veterinarians. We can have ECG’s analyzed by an external lab if required.
During the anaesthetic procedure, a veterinary technician will continually assess your pet’s heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, and other vital signs to help prevent any anesthetic risk. We also provide appropriate pain medication during recovery.
